Jammu and
Kashmir Employees and Workers United Front (JKPEWUF) on Tuesday
termed the government’s decision reportedly aimed at privatization
of the Power Development Department (PDD as “anti-people and anti- employees.”
Addressing a press conference here, JKPEWUF, which represents PDD employees
across the state, said the cabinet’s approval to setting up of Transmission and
Distribution companies in the Power Development Department (PDD) was a step
towards privatizing the department .
“The state government is following these policies as per the directions of the
central government, which in turn working at the behest of International
Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank to ensure the big profit for greedy
corporate houses,” said Mohammad Maqbool, General Sectary JKPEWUF.
Employees also alleged that the government is facing a mess in the power sector
due to many reasons as the department has no proper planning and is plagued by
misuse of funds, huge corruption, purchasing of substandard material for
repairing and mismanagement.
