Online matric results: 'Leaked' or a 'goof-up'

Srinagar: Hours before Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) officially declared the results of Class 10th on Tuesday afternoon, thousands of students and parents seeking to know the results were left in the lurch owing to the board's 'goof-up' in hosting the results on its official website.

Since Tuesday midnight, hundreds of candidates were able to check the results through a JKBOSE weblink posted on popular social networking website Facebook. The board authorities however till Tuesday afternoon maintained that the results were yet to be declared, creating confusion among the students and general public.
The link which redirected users to the official website of the board was later blocked by the website administrators an hour before the results were officially announced
However, JKBOSE authorities are yet to explain how the ‘official’ website link surfaced on the internet. Surinder Sharma, director of Jammu-based Say Technologies which maintains the official website of JKBOSE confirmed to Kashmir Dispatch that the result was indeed hosted online on Tuesday midnight for testing purposes before being pulled  off from the internet.
“We did a test run to keep the pages ready for publishing. We are given little time to make the results available online by the board authorities. We have to be always ready with the results,” said Sharma adding, “May be somebody had accessed the website at that time and circulated the link further, which could have been accessed by others, even with basic knowledge of internet one can access the results; but there is no question of hacking."
Commissioner Secretary Education and JKBOSE chairperson Naseema Lankar told a Delhi-based news agency that the board had given a trial run on the internet before declaring the result officially.
"There is nothing like leak. We had to give a trial run for the results on the internet which we did. The result is now available on the site,” Lankar told the news agency.
Agitated parents and students termed the goof-up in declaration of the results as an unprofessional act on part of the board authorities. They blamed the board for the fiasco and creating confusion among the students and general public.
“If the board doesn’t have sufficient manpower and know-how of technology to host the results on their official website, I don’t think there is any need to play around with such things. This shows lack of professionalism ,” said Abdul Rasheed Sofi, a parent.
The state education minister, Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed denied that the results were 'leaked' but promised an inquiry into the matter.

India wants Kashmiri youth to pick up guns again: Geelani

India wants Kashmiri youth to pick up guns again: Geelani

Calls for strike on Saturday

Srinagar: Alleging that New Delhi was using “state repression” to force Kashmiri youth towards, militancy, Hurriyat Conference(G) chairman, Syed Ali Shah Geelani Monday appealled youth "fed up of government repression not to fall for any such trap and keep the freedom struggle peaceful."

Addressing a press conference at his Hyderpora residence here, Geelani alleged that his-led Tehreek-Hurriyat and Hurriyat Conference was being targeted and “51 members are currently behind bars.”
“I have been under house arrest for the past 127 days while almost our entire leadership is detained in jails across the state. Besides, thousands of youth are held across several jails and interrogation centers, and the police is now booking 14 and 15 year olds under draconian PSA.  Political prisoners are being kept in the most inhumane conditions and subjected to physical and mental torture,” he said while calling for a state-wide shutdown on January 15.
Geelani said victims of the “terror and oppression” unleashed by police and other forces had been visiting him and expressing their doubts about keeping the “struggle peaceful when the government has launched a crackdown against peaceful activities, when the police and other forces are detaining the youth under draconian acts and subjecting them to torture and humiliation.”
“They ask me why shouldn’t they take up the gun again, but I persuade them against it. I tell them that this is what India wants you to do. And today again, I appeal the youth to keep the struggle peaceful come what may, because India wants to push you to the wall so that it succeeds in its conspiracy of turning our peaceful struggle violent. I appeal them not to fall for India's violence trap ,” Geelani said.
Geelani alleged that for this purpose, police and other government forces in Kashmir had launched a “crackdown” on youth and pro-freedom leaders at New Delhi’s behest. “The so-called state government is helpless. It’s New Delhi which is running the show in Kashmir through its military forces and police,” he said.
He also alleged that the police had turned the arrest and release of youth into a “profitable business”. “ I can produce before you scores of boys, who were released after police extorted hefty sums from their families, but they fear for  police reprisal,” he said.
Geelani also lashed out at the judiciary for “failing to provide justice to Kashmiris.”
“People are arrested and booked under fictitious cases while the judges base their decision on mere accusations of police,” he said.
He said the  “Deputy Commissioners and Divisional Magistrates” were following the “diktat of police and security agencies.”
“They should listen to their conscience once and ask themselves how can they sign every PSA order just because the police orders them  to do so,” he said. Condemning the re-arrest of Mian Qayoom, Geelani said the Bar President was being “victimized” for pleading cases of “victims of state oppression.” “He is not being released despite the court quashing his PSA several times, and has been attacked twice by rightwing BJP and Jan Sanghi activists.

Massive protest

People protest, Army feigns
ignorance

Srinagar: Massive protests
erupted in Ari Panth village of
Central Kashmir’s Budgam district
this morning following an
alleged molestation bid by Army
men.

Eyewitnesses told Kashmir
Dispatch that a patrolling party of
Army’s 35 Rashtriya Rifles (RR)
last night barged into the
residential house of Ali
Mohammad Bhat at Ari Panth
village in Beerwah and allegedly
tried to molest his young
daughter. They said the Army
men thrashed Bhat’s son Nisar
Ahmad and other family
members for raising an alarm.
Nisar is said to be an employee
of the state agriculture
department.
“ On hearing the cries, we came
out of our houses. We were
stunned to see Army men
running away,” Abdul Majeed, a
local said.
“ Had the locals not come to the
rescue of the family, Army would
have gone to any extent,” he
added.
However, Srinagar based, Army
spokesman Lt Col J S Brar while
speaking to Kashmir Dispatch
said, “I have no information
about this incident.”
This morning, eyewitnesses said,
scores of men, women and
children took to streets and
staged anti-Army
demonstrations. Chanting
slogans, the protesters were
demanding stern action against
the troopers.
Later, senior police officials
visited the spot and assured the
locals of action.
Senior Superintendent of police
(SSP) Budgam, Aftab Ahmad
refuted the allegations of
molestation. However, he said
investigations have been
initiated for the alleged beating
of a youth by Army men.
“ We have received a report that
last night a patrolling party of
Army’s 35 led by a Major was
passing through the area when
they asked a youth to stop.
Instead, the youth flashed lights
on the Army team and tried to
run away. Army chased and
allegedly thrashed him,” Kakroo
said.
“ SDPO and a senior revenue
official went to the village this
morning. They have recorded the
statement of the villagers. If
enquiry finds Army guilty, strict
action will be initiated,” he
added.
He said the situation is the area
remained peaceful even as some
problem was witnessed this

morning.
