No takers for gas heaters this winter

20 October : The recent government decision to cap subsidized LPG that has made this essential commodity scarce to fuel the hearth has equally hit the sales of the heating gadgets that were operated on this fuel.
Instead the sales of electricity run heating and cooking gadgets have increased tremendously putting extra burden on electricity scenario of Kashmir.
The worst hit are the sales of gas heaters that Kashmiris have switched to over a period of time ousting the Kangari from the rooms to fight the bitter winter chill.
As the winter is all set to set its feet in the Valley, the demand for various heating gadgets running on electricity have replaced the LPG run heating appliances form the market.
The fallout is seen in the markets with the dealers of these products saying that they are dismal about any sale of LPG operating appliance prospects this year.

Electronic gadgets have witnessed immense demand in the market as the temperature has started to plummet. Many shops in this summer capital are laden with high-end electronic heating gadgets like blankets, halogen heaters, etc.
In the market there are Chinese and Indian Halogen heaters, radiators and blowers available. “The range of Chinese heaters start from Rs 400 up to 3000 and Indian ones start from Rs 800 to Rs 8000. The gadgets are coming up in very nominal prices and have high durability that also adds in its sale,” said Parray.
“Recent past witnessed installation of digital electronic meters and people find it hectic to afford old blowers, but now new gadgets are available with low power consumption,” said Ghulam Mohammad Shah another dealer at Koker Bazar.
He added that so far they have sold more than 1000 heating appliances in past one week. This is happening for the first time. Earlier we also used to sell these electronic heaters but this year cap on LPG has given the sales a big boost.
